Duty Schedule:

Monday through Friday with some late and weekend hours (depending on needs of students)

Summary/Objective of Position:

The Adult Education Instructor/Success Coach, supervised by the Director of Student Affairs, will facilitate learning opportunities for participants, including appropriate instruction (both on-line or in person) and Instructional guidance Including advisement, career coaching, basic computer skills, language. and mathematics skills at varying levels. reading comprehension for appropriate academic subjects in preparation for gainful employment or post-secondary. This position is funded by the US Department of Education through the New Mexico Higher Education Department Adult Education Division.

Description of Essential Functions of the Position

INSTRUCTION (40%)

1. Develops instructional materials to include general academic and Job/career specific skills, technology and life-relevant skills.
2. Promotes technology benefiting Program and participants including Hybrid instruction (individual, small group. classroom, or on-line).
3. Prepares for in-person or on-line instructions with participants; provides instructional materials for students without Internet connectivity, when needed.
4. Provides participants with quality, relevant and balanced instruction in a multi-disciplinary environment when possible.
5. Assists in the expansion projects to remote areas and rotating sites with the Inclusion of technology as part of the delivery method, distance learning, as a vehicle to expose more participants to program offerings.
6. Initiates and maintains appropriate data records and work closely with the Adult Education Coordinator.
7. Actively participates in on-going Independent professional development, that is, searching on-line and reading relevant research, adding to the program research material to share with other instructors, and is able to summarize relevant books and materials.

ADVISING/CAREER COACHING (60%)

1. Has an analytical understanding of the results of assessment (career, affective) and High School Equivalency testing as ii relates to performance measures and participant level gains: Is cognizant of data analysis and the inferred trends.
2. Has working knowledge of in-take procedure, assessment information, advisement documentation, and establishing timeline for short and long-term goal achievement with participants.
3. Assists with participant case management. knows participants' names, where they reside, academic strengths and weaknesses.
4. Assists each participant in accomplishing individual goals as well as the program goals in a timely manner.
5. Connects with local employers to determine types of skills needed by potential employees.
6. Trains participants in the appropriate use of instruction guides, creating e-portfolios, on-line instruction and career resources.
7. Monitors progress of students nearing completion with check-Ins, scheduled meetings (either In-person or virtual) or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns, and needs.

8. Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success.

9. Works with students to learn strong lime management and organizational skills.
10. Motivates students to practice self-regulation and lake ownership of their academic success.
11. Develops a clear plan of career options, post-secondary, and/or training prior to participant exiting program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

A four year degree in education, counseling or related field with three years of experience teaching adult in a classroom or tutoring environment or in a distance learning environment.

Preferred:

A Master's degree in education, counseling or related field with two years of experience teaching adults in a classroom or in a distance learning environment.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of adult learning and career development theories.
Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personalities, and interest
Knowledge of process and resources for organizing and leading group and collaborative activities.
Knowledge of learning and motivation.
Knowledge of coaching. instructional and mentoring techniques.
Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft 365. and Instructional software.
Working knowledge of apps and social media (such as Facebook, lnstagram, Twitter. Snapchat, Tik Tok and so forth.)

Skills:

Understand the importance of communication for the operation of the program and actively communicates with others
Cognizant of appropriate classroom management.
Understand the importance of being on the fob as assigned, with appropriate notification of absence.
Exhibit positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, personal flexibility, sensitivity lo learners of all ages, ability to relate to and effectively communicate with the target population (program participants).

Abilities:

Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisor exhibited by the sharing of information and skills.

Ability to effectively organize and plan for working with demographically diverse learners.

Ability to be innovative in helping learners while performing duties and tasks.

Ability to properly and effectively maintain and monitor the program student database while consistently increasing one's working knowledge of the database.

Demonstrated the ability to conduct interesting and relevant classroom situation while exhibiting appropriate management of the classroom,participants, atmosphere, and environment.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

Must be able to work at various locations, teaching assignment locations may vary.

Willing to travel for conferences, workshops, or training when necessary;may require overnight stay.

Other Requirement(s):

Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

Functional knowledge of fundamental to advance computer use skills.

Must have valid state issued driver's license.
