Job description: Job Summary
The Talent Search program is a US Dept of Education funded program which identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to and complete their postsecondary education.
The Talent Search Coordinator's primary responsibility Involves planning, developing, implementing and evaluating program activities, counseling, tutoring and advising focused on students' successful graduation from high school and career readiness. The Talent Search Coordinator will work with students, program alumni, teachers, counselors, the school district, community stakeholders and parents, and will provide college advising and educational opportunities such as field trips and campus visits to students and parents in their partner school. In addition, the coordinator will conduct Summer enrichment activities in accordance with TRIO regulations. and has the responsibility to keep records of the numbers and demographics of students, teachers, and parents served in all of these efforts.
This position will be working schools in the Antioch and Pittsburgh school districts. Must be available for some evening and weekend activities.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 3 + years of experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population
- Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies
- Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts
- Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements
- Demonstrated cultural awareness with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
- Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
- Demonstrate organizational and program coordination skills, including the ability to set priorities and work on several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
- Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth

The UCSF Talent Search Program is housed in the Center for Science, education and Outreach (CSEO), which is a department within in the Office of Diversity and Outreach. Since 1999, The Center for Science Education and Outreach has provided programs and services that lead to student academic success, increased college-going rates and exploration of various STEM careers for the students and schools we serve.
The Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO)serves as the campus leader in building diversity in all aspects of the UC San Francisco mission through ongoing assessment, development of new programs and building consensus. We collaborate with the four professional schools, the Graduate Division, and the medical centers, to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across UCSF.
