Job Summary:

Develop and implement activities, programs, and services for students eligible for the NYS Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), and the Ithaca College sponsored Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (C-STEM) Program. Assist in implementing services and activities to improve student achievement, retention, and graduation. Assist with HEOP and CSTEP activities for the Summer Programs. Assist in monitoring and reconciling program budgets and preparation of reports for New York State.

Supervision: Reports to Director

Essential Duties: * Deliver programs and activities to students eligible for the HEOP, CSTEP, and/or CSTEM programs. Produce and disseminate literature promoting opportunities for HEOP, CSTEP, and CSTEM participants; assist in maintaining a web page advertising HEOP, CSTEP and CSTEM activities and services and utilize creative/interactive technology.
  • Provide regular intrusive one-on-one academic, personal and career counseling to HEOP, CSTEP and CSTEM participants. Work with students to develop long-term goals and strategies to achieve academic success. Consult with the Office of Access Opportunity, and Achievement team regarding intervention strategies for struggling students. Consult with and make referrals to: Academic Services Specialists, Tutoring Services, Student Financial Services, Faculty Advisors, Career Services, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), and the Office of Counseling and Wellness, as examples; document records of service for program students, as applicable and appropriate.
  • Assist with the selection of prospective HEOP participants by reviewing Admissions files, conducting interviews, presenting to Admissions groups and traveling to recruitment events.
  • Develop and implement appropriate interventions for HEOP, CSTEP and CSTEM participants such as academic workshops, personal and professional seminars, cultural events, faculty/professional mentoring interventions, community services activities, and travel to conferences for HEOP, CSTEP and CSTEM participants; collaborate with Career Services, Center for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice (IDEAS), Student Engagement and the various schools regarding effective delivery of student development interventions. Make all provisions for student travel. Accompany students as warranted.
  • As requested, assist with updating and monitoring program budgets. Collect, organize and analyze data on current HEOP, CSTEP and CSTEM participants and program graduates. Maintain accurate, auditable records and produce annual retention and other reports. A strong ability to meet all deadlines for the submission of all reports is required. Consult and collaborate with Alumni Relations for tracking and communicating annually with program graduates.
  • Assist with the Summer Institute in the following capacities: planning, team building activities participation, counseling, course planning and instruction, and collaborating with other offices in developing pre-freshman programming. Remain flexible as evening, weekend and/or holiday participation may be required.
  • As requested, meet with Summer Institute faculty to clarify goals of the HEOP program and review pretest and posttest results for math and writing courses, in addition to other SI courses. Discuss student progress with Summer Institute staff and faculty. Conduct one-on-one advising appointments and monitor and support participants.
  • Participate in the Summer Institute assessment process. Responsible for monitoring academic progress of HEOP participants to ensure that program participants are enrolled in appropriate courses. Review Summer Institute faculty recommendations and consult with faculty advisors as needed.
  • As requested, assist in the direction and guidance for residential staff during the Summer Institute and student staff projects during the academic year.
  • Identify and ensure regular participation in professional development activities. Remain current on relevant literature related to student development research and effective interventions for retention and graduation of historically underrepresented and academically underprepared students in higher education.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a higher education/student services environment; considerable experience working with a diverse student population in a counseling or academic advising role; knowledge and understanding of the mission, goals and objectives of higher education opportunity programs; strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the College to prospective students, families and public constituencies; a valid New York state driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College are required. Experience working with state and/or federal grant reporting, ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekend hours, strong ability to follow guidelines and , and a minimum of at least 9 graduate school credits leading towards a master's degree are all strongly preferred. Hiring Range-$55k-57k,commensurate with qualifications and experience. Work Environment:

Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The incumbent will be required to operate a personal computer and associated equipment such as computer printers as well as other office equipment used in day-to-day operations. The incumbent will be required to attend workshops, conferences, and meetings on and off campus and during and after normal business hours or overnight and must be able to walk or drive or make alternative arrangements.

The incumbent will be required to accompany students to off campus locations (e.g., regional or national workshops, conferences, and graduate school fairs). A condition of employment may require approval by Ithaca College Risk Management to drive College vehicles or the ability to secure rentals on behalf of the College.
