Position Description



The Department of Theatre & Film at The University of Mississippi invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Film Production beginning August 20, 2024. An MFA, or other terminal degree, at the time of hire along with a strong record in film production is required for this full time, tenure track, nine-month position. Applicants with expertise within any area(s) of film production are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and staff in the film production area in the supervision of a film production program at a Research I University; teaching undergraduate film production courses within our film production curriculum; maintaining and growing a strong record of professional creative work outside the department; and performing service appropriate to the position including recruitment and participation in shared governance. Additional responsibilities will include mentoring students both academically and with career preparation.



The department currently enrolls 120 majors with 20 full time faculty and offers a BA in Theatre Arts and BFA in Theatre Arts emphases in Acting for Stage & Screen, Design & Theatre Production, and Film Production. The BFA in Film Production is a 4-year intensive program which trains students in all aspects of film from development through postproduction.
