2025 Commercial Development Program - Buffalo, NY

Overview: Participates in the assigned Commercial Development Program (CDP) training curriculum. Includes a combination of in-person and virtual training and activities, as well as on-the-job application. Participants will be introduced to the M&T Bank organization while learning Commercial-specific job knowledge, and professional development skills. The program prepares trainees for a position within the Commercial Underwriting or Portfolio Management departments upon completion of the program. Hires will be required to work a hybrid schedule in the office that they'll be hired into for the duration of the program. However, upon successful completion of the program, participants may have the opportunity to relocate post-program based on business needs. Primary Responsibilities: Complete the ten-month program curriculum through participation in structured classroom sessions, web-based training, individual and group activities, as well as on-the-job assignments. Learn and build upon fundamental credit skills, through introduction to the processes and systems associated with the lifecycle of a loan. Participate in observations and rotations within the Commercial Bank and Credit departments. Partner with department personnel to assist on projects or credit transactions and demonstrate proficiency through completion of the work. Present findings or work product to internal groups as may be required. Partake in professional development, networking, and community-focused activities. Travel will be required for in-person sessions, approximately 1 week at a time throughout the program. Work in a hybrid environment (2-3 days in the office, remainder at home). Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. Scope & Responsibilities: This Commercial Development Program provides classroom and experiential learning. Throughout the program, participants will report to the Commercial Development Program manager, and receive on-the-job guidance from team leads and other department personnel. Trainees will learn fundamental credit skills, gain an understanding of how the Bank operates, and have opportunities to interact with executive management, network, participate in professional development and mentoring. In addition, trainees will develop critical thinking skills through examining industry and market trends, evaluating credit risks, and analyzing client financial performance. As part of a local team, participants will become familiar with the community banking strategy and may be introduced to M&T clients. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be placed into either an Underwriting or Portfolio Management role, determined by business need and participant interest. Supervisory Responsibility: None Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor??s degree with a 3.0 GPA Work/internship experience Business/Administration Management knowledge Proficient analytical and quantitative skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Self-motivated with demonstration leadership abilities Willingness and affinity to work as part of a team Demonstrated computer skills.
