Job description: Under the direction of the California Veterinary Emergency Team's (CVET's) Associate Director of Operations, the Clinical Veterinarian contributes to the development and implementation of animal care standards, hands-on training of disaster responders, recommending necessary animal care equipment/supplies, and key stakeholder engagement between disasters (primarily wildfires) involving domestic animals and livestock in the state of California. During disasters, the Clinical Veterinarian provides essential clinical medical work and management of veterinary personnel during disaster response, typically at shelters and/or staging areas. During non-emergency periods, the position will assist in CVET preparedness activities, works on research activities to ensure best achievable response, and assists with teaching and public service activities as part of the OHI and UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM).

BUDGETED SALARY RANGE: $7,383.33-$10,633.33/MONTH COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work in hot, humid environments in full personal protective gear for long periods of time.
- Work at a personal computer for extended periods of time.

- Schedule is subject to change with only 3-24 hours notification.
- Work occasional weekends and holidays.
- Obtain appropriate OSHA and fire safety training/certification within 30 days of employment.
- Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
- This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
- Maintain valid California Driver's License and participate in the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System Program. A copy of DMV record will be required as a condition of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum License/Certification:
- DVM/VMD/BVSc degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine, and appropriate federal/California veterinary licenses (or ability to acquire required licenses within 6 months of hire). Be in good standing in any states where currently or previously licensed.
- Minimum Education/Experience:
- Experience in the treatment of, and husbandry for domestic large animals and livestock, including preventive medicine (population health).
- Experience managing animal care activities, including supervision of Animal Health Technicians, care staff and volunteers.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching (both members of the public and professionals) and research (including study design and implementation).
- Strong experience in effectively coordinating and motivating staff and demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in emergency response management, including response experience or exercise acting within an Incident Command System utilized in managing emergency situations.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
· In-depth understanding of veterinary medical and animal welfare laws and regulations, as well as the public's concern for humane care of animals and the use of animals for teaching and research within the context of animal welfare laws and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience managing animal care activities within a disaster response/shelter environment, and ability to recognize the changing needs of the response procedures.
- Experience in conducting and publishing hypothesis-driven research including that involving animal health and ecotoxicology.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate scientific and complex information in lay terms to volunteers and the public.
- Ability to tow a trailer, or willingness to learn how to tow a trailer for response operations.
