Job title: Transition Teacher - 2023-2024 SY Company: St. Clair County Regional Office of Education Job description : Under the general direction of the Principal or Designee, the Transition Teacher monitors and supports the academic readiness of students, assists students who are struggling behaviorally, academically or perform poorly on standardized assessments. The Transition Teacher will provide “real time” pull-out research-based interventions in the core curricular and behavioral areas to students that are currently below grade level based on analysis of NWEA, and other assessment data. In addition, the Transition Teacher will collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, social workers, and others who support students in order to attend to the social, personal and academic needs of the students. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's or Master’s degree Illinois Professional Educator License with Secondary and/or High School Math, Science, English Language Arts or Social Science endorsements Prior experience working with secondary at-risk students Demonstrated effectiveness with integrating Technology Skills to deliver instruction to improve academic success KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: 1. Illinois Common Core Learning Standards 2. Academic evaluation and data collection methods 3. Educational programs, curriculum, and instructional practices that support student learning 4. Best Practices in the delivery of curriculum and instruction 5. Behavior Intervention Methods 6. Effective Classroom Management 7. Federal and State laws regarding special education Ability to: 1. Deliver instruction in a manner that improves student achievement 2. Implement intense student support 3. Collect and manage data related to student progress 4. Monitor and support student safety 5. Communicate effectively orally and in writing 6. Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures 7. Work collaboratively in a team environment with teachers and other stakeholders DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: (May not include all duties performed) Provide written lesson plan in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program Establish high expectations for learning for all students and make sure students are aware of expectations Gather, organize, and interpret assessment data on students Utilize best instructional practice strategies and research based-intervention curriculum materials to meet the learning needs of the students Analyze existing student achievement data and administer student assessment and progress monitoring instruments as needed to aid in progress monitoring of students Serve on the building level MTSS team and participate in data analysis meetings. Provide leadership for these meetings in collaboration with the building administrator Collaborate with classroom teachers, building administrators, and parents when designing the MTSS interventions Maintain accurate student records, parent communications records and student progress data reports as required by school and district policy Attend professional development opportunities that promote improved instructional strategies and support researched-based resource material needed to implement the intervention program successfully and support/maintain professional growth. Follow district guidelines and policies Maintain proper professional conduct as defined in the Employee Handbook If necessary will make appropriate referrals for crisis intervention, IEP teams, guidance consultation, and/or psychological testing Collaborate with classroom teachers, principals, and other specialist to discuss student instructional needs and report deficiencies Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement and identify potential obstacles Serves as a school resource specialist to provide academic and behavior support Work with continuous caseload of students per day and tutor in Math and ELA, Social-emotional and other areas as needed Use available technology to enhance instruction and achievement Demonstrate competency in all subject areas taught Provide evidence of student performance and progress Establish and maintain rules and conduct and discipline that are consistent with District Policy and Procedures and that result in an environment conducive to learning Adhere to policies and procedures regarding Special Education referrals, staffing, and conferences Practice fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibit an understanding and respect for students as individuals Be punctual and regular in attendance to school and duty assignments Exhibit a cooperative attitude and professionalism toward students, parents, community, and school personnel Make appropriate use of professional preparation periods Present an appearance that does not adversely affect the student's ability to learn Communicate the academic progress, attendance, and conduct of students to their parents/guardians Other duties as necessary to the position WORKING CONDITIONS: Maintain effective critical thinking skills needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, occasionally required to lift up to 24 lbs.
