Job title: Elementary School Tutor Company: Dayton Early College Academy Job description : Job description ELEMENTARY TUTOR JOB DESCRIPTION Job Summary: Elementary Tutors are responsible for providing supplemental practice through tutoring children in kindergarten through fourth grades to develop early literacy skills. Each day elementary tutors will use a prescribed literacy program to deliver tutoring in small groups to students. This position reports to the Tutor Supervisor. Qualifications: Valid Ohio or teaching license * Interest in education, specifically helping young children develop early literacy skills Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults An affinity for supporting students as individual learners Sound student and classroom management skills Ability to improvise and problem solve Experience with technology-integration in the teaching and learning process Effective in an interdisciplinary, teamed environment Entrepreneurial spirit Dedication to the mission of assuring student learning and achievement Professional and Personal Requirements: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills; able to pay careful attention to details Able to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance the efficiency of the organization Able to establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization Able to adapt to a sometimes challenging, high-pressure environment Able to perform well on a team Able to prioritize and accomplish highest-leverage activities Able to improvise and work through uncertainties; strong problem-solving skills Able to follow up on key information and obligations Able to drive for results and manage shifting priorities with very little direction Able to draw attention to and celebrate school-wide, classroom, and student success Duties/Essential Functions: Conduct small group and one-on-one tutoring sessions with students using literacy materials provided by DECA PREP Assist children to improve their reading skills and abilities to reach grade level expectations. Build a strong rapport with students and communicate with them in an age and developmentally appropriate way Regularly review student data to gauge the effectiveness of the literacy intervention being used and determine if a change in strategy is necessary Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, teachers, tutors, building leadership, and other key stakeholders to ensure the success of the program Act on feedback and coaching from Instructional Coaches, Classroom Teachers, and Building Administrators Ensure confidentiality of all student records and diagnostic scores Assess, with a high level of accuracy, students’ continual progress through progress monitoring and benchmarking Document students’ weekly progress scores and interventions using an online database system Demonstrate a positive, supportive, enthusiastic, and encouraging attitude with all students and staff Attend faculty meetings and other staff development and planning sessions as determined by the building Principal Supervise children in non-instructional situations as assigned Perform other duties as assigned. Terms of Employment: Hourly Rate: $18 Working Environment: Workplace locations include: School, activity center, outdoor play areas; Other environments as deemed necessary/appropriate. Physical demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands, and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
