Overview

JOB SUMMARY: The Activity Instructor teaches and facilitates a youth centered theatre class, choreography and/or STEP classes.

TITLE: ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR (Dance, STEP or Choreography)

REPORTS TO:Program Director

LOCATION: 1580 Dean Street, Brooklyn NY 11213

HOURS:Up To 12 Hours/ Week, Non-Exempt

MAJOR DUTIES:

?? Facilitate step classes, dance, and/or choreography that follow a social group work model.

?? Pre-planning of activity; activities are to provide students with structure, purposeful use of activity and self, including beginning and ending rituals.

?? Develop step curriculum based on students? interest. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth.

?? Submit lesson plans in a timely fashion.

?? Develop several performances for two culminating events, mid-year and end of the year, showcasing students work.

?? Attend and participate in staff meetings.

?? Facilitate purposeful activities in community hour and participate on other staff lead activities as part of the staff team.

?? Foster a youth development, strength?s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.

?? Document classes/ workshop planning as required.

?? Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

?? High School Diploma required. Some college and experience with adolescents preferred.

?? Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.

?? Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.

?? Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

?? Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.
