About the position

The Senior Staff Accountant position is responsible for maintaining comprehensive accounting records and financial reports for the Municipality of Anchorage. This role involves ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards, providing training on SAP modules, and collaborating with various departments to prepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The position requires a strong analytical skill set to identify errors and implement corrective actions, as well as the ability to develop and improve financial reporting practices.

Responsibilities
?? Maintain thorough review and guidance to various departments for complete accounting of Municipal funds in accordance with governmental accounting standards.

?? Maintain complete accounting records, financial reports, schedules, and summaries for funds for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
,
?? Work closely with departments, Senior Staff Accountants, and Finance Supervisors to complete the ACFR.

?? Provide training to various departments for the SAP modules.
,
?? Provide backup support to other Senior Staff Accountants.
,
?? Perform assigned reconciliations of various funds and accounts.
,
?? Analyze monthly accounts for errors or unusual balances and prepare correcting entries to ensure compliance with GAAP.

?? Research proper accounting for unusual or unique transactions.
,
?? Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures, SAP updates, or upgrades, policies, and training needed to improve financial reporting practices.

Requirements
?? High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of experience in accounting, payroll, or similar office responsibility.

?? Associate's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and five (5) years of professional accounting work experience.
,
?? Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.

?? A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
,
?? Must possess and/or obtain a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
