Your Role:
The Sr. Controller, Client Advisory Services role is a strategic part of our dynamic team of accounting and financial experts, aimed at enhancing existing services and providing valuable, unparalleled client advisory services. As a Senior Controller, Client Advisory Services you will serve as a trusted advisor to the entrepreneurial leaders across our diverse portfolio of clients, assisting them in driving growth and profitability. This position will manage an assigned group of clients and simultaneously lead a team of 6-10 staff.
Your responsibilities will be multifaceted, ranging from identifying clients' unique needs to engaging in strategic planning to drive results and desired outcomes. You will serve as a proactive thought leader for clients, offering both short term solutions and long term planning to guide clients towards their goals. Your responsibilities will vary greatly from client to client, and may be project based or long term engagements.
In this role you will assist clients in overcoming specific organizational challenges they may face, including: developing robust short and long term budgeting and forecasting, financial planning and analysis, managing cash flow, driving solutions for low gross margins, and developing forward facing actionable data. Collaborating closely with our clients' internal leadership teams, you will develop and execute financial strategies aligned with their organizational objectives, providing valuable insights and recommendations to enhance their profitability and mitigate risks.
You will also lead and mentor an accounting team for your assigned clients. You will manage the month end closing and issuance of financial reports while motivating your team to provide best in class service.
Additionally, our Sr. Controller, Client Advisory Services may serve as liaisons between clients and external entities such as banks, benefits brokers and insurance agents. Our clients span across a variety of industries including eCommerce, government, services, consumer products, manufacturing, and non-profit sectors. Our Sr. Controller, Client Advisory Services focus on clients within their respective industry experience.
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a leader with an entrepreneurial mindset and strategic approach, and this rile will report directly to an Assistant Director.
- Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage multiple concurrent engagements, performing high quality client work and developing strong client relationships
- Partner with client's leadership on operational and strategic decisions to enhance their performance. Collaborate with clients to address accounting requests and questions - follow up with appropriate action steps, scope, prioritization and delegation.
- Taking a proactive approach and anticipating client needs, develops an understanding and awareness of each client's unique business, accounting needs and requirements. Provides strategic leadership into the scalable accounting operations of each client's business, ensuring their internal control systems, policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Manage the month-end closing and issuance of financial reports to all assigned clients, every month.
- Lead and mentor accounting team for assigned clients. Motivate team to provide best in class service. Provide coaching, deliver timely feedback and conduct reviews to ensure staff are set up for success.
- Financial Planning and Budgeting
- Work within the client's business to develop client's annual and longer term budget and maintain cash forecasting tools as needed to support long term planning
- Monitor budget performance and provide insights for budget adjustments, as needed
- Develop and review financial and operating metrics through use of dashboards, including KPIs
- Identify variances from the budget, root cause and work with client on solutions as needed.
- Strategic Financial Analysis
- Analyze financial and operational data to provide real-time, meaningful recommendations and implementing actions based on findings. Identifies trends, risks, and growth opportunities
- Provide actionable insights to senior leadership to drive strategic decision-making
- Execute client conference calls via Zoom video chat on a regular basis to review strategy, current and future needs, as well as operational changes affecting financial results
- Complete special projects as requested by client
Essential Skills & Experience:
The Sr. Controller, Client Advisory Services candidate will be an active CPA, CMA, or MBA with transferable knowledge in accounting and FP&A for businesses in the $5M to $25M market, and a strong working knowledge in the Non Profit industry.

- 7+ years of Controllership and/or FP&A, strong understanding of financial systems, project management and process improvement
- Demonstrated supervisory experience with a passion for mentoring staff.
- Ability to demonstrate an entrepreneurial advisory mindset and make quick decisions based on knowledge and experience
- Work with all levels of within the organization while fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration
- Able to connect and build strong relationships with business owners
- Comfortable with change and easily pivots when priorities change
- Technical, analytical focus, handles complex issues and finds creative solutions, even in challenging situations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to express oneself confidently
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task daily, weekly and monthly priorities
- Comprehensive understanding of various automated accounting solutions. Strong experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite and/or other accounting software packages and passion for learning new technologies
- Thrives in a fast paced environment, with a sense of urgency to achieve timely, quality results
- Excellent presentation skills
- Effectively operates within established standards and guidelines
- Ability to acclimate to various client environments
- High degree of computer literacy, including extensive knowledge in Microsoft Office, and specifically Outlook and Excel
- Ability to travel when necessary
- Minimum Education & Training Required:
- Bachelor's in Finance or Accounting
- CPA license, CMA or MBA preferred
